About two weeks ago, e-patient Dave sent me a link to his blog post about his Google (GOOG) Health information sucked out of the Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital in Boston. It finally made the Boston Globe this morning.
Here’s the problem. Each and every piece of multi, multi-million dollar bloated piece of crap healthcare “electronic medical record” (sounds about as dated as electronic mail, doesn’t it?”), is simply a billing engine to communicate a medical diagnosis to insurance companies with the hopes of maximizing how much doctors are paid…

Jay:
Congrats on all of your success. I applaud anyone who takes on (and SUCCEEDS) changing the health care system and addressing the blatant cost-inefficiencies and complete lack of consumer-oriented focus. For some reason the powers-that-be all understand that Health Care is a HUGE business based on the amount of money it represents but very few companies within that industry take a Consumer-Oriented approach or even recognize that Patients are people and consumers and thus they have the right to be treated as such. With solutions like the ones you are providing, you are enabling patients to have choices and now I think that will finally make these Executives operate their companies more in line with the competitive and consumer-accountable models employed by other “big business.” I tried to do this when I wrote a funny but thoughtful book about being a chronically ill patient back in 2001 (and it did land me on NBC’s “Today Show”) but I think my ideas were a bit premature back then when “The Patient’s Rights Bill” was last discussed in earnest. However, after reading about you and your efforts in the May, 2009 edition of “Fast Company,” I think you have somehow orchestrated the right vehicle at the right time – and it looks as if you will also eventually get the government’s support. To that end, I own all of the Domain Name Extensions surrounding the phrase “Hospital Patient” and due to the tremendous amount of medical debt I am in due to living with a serious case of Crohn’s Disease for 20+ years, I am now embarking on an effort to sell the Ten (10) “Hospital Patient” Domain Names I own.
More specifically, I have listed them below and there are obvious immediate and cost-efficient Marketing and Brand Awareness benefits to incorporating a http://www.hospitalpatient.com into a Business Campaign so I thought I would simply tell you about what I am trying to do and if you or your colleagues are interested – please let me know as I am also in the process of contacting the other mainstream Web initiatives such as Google Health, Microsoft HealthVault, RevolutionHealth, etc. In any event, thanks and congratulations on truly making a difference in the lives of people who SO Desperately need their needs addressed. (BTW – If you want a copy of my book – “Confessions of a Professional Hospital Patient” – just let me know and I will send you one.)
